Welcome to our frequently asked questions page.

What type of parking is available?

At this time, we do not have a garage, but we have off street parking for up to 3 vehicles, just outside our front yard, and an additional parking spot to the side part of our property near the mailbox. Lakeview Drive is also a very quiet street, not many vehicles drive by, and as long as you don’t block cars from driving by, you can park on the other side of the street as well. Please note that the garbage truck will need room to go by on Thursday mornings.

What are the check-in and check-out instructions?

You will receive these instructions a few days prior to your stay, but here is some of the basic list of information that you will be receiving. Check in, this email will provide you with the front door code to get into the house, with standard information on home equipment use and other standard provided services available during your stay, while the check out information is the typical process that most vacation rentals ask of. Please note: We do offer late check-out times, so you don’t have to feel rushed before you leave. This will have to be requested prior to your stay to ensure that the cleaning crew is scheduled after your departure.

Example of checkout instructions: *Start a load of laundry, like towels or comforters. Please note, the comforters and towels can be washed together but not with clothes or sheets as the comforters cause extra lint that you don’t want added to your clothes or the sheets. *Start a load of dishes. *take out trash to trash can by basement door. *Any beds that were used, please take sheets off and put them in a pile by bed, so that cleaning company knows which sheets to wash, and which beds that were not used. *Turn off the coffee maker (if on). *Make sure that thermostat is at a normal temperature. *Don’t forget to remove all of your personal belongings and dispose of all kitchen food/drink items from refrigerator and cabinets, that have been opened and used. If there are any condiments that the next guest can use, please feel free to leave them. *Make sure that the oven, stove and grill are turned off as well as any fire started has been put out. *Lock all of the doors. The front door should lock automatically when shut. Please leave anything that was supplied to you during your stay, so that the next guests can enjoy them, and put them back where you found them.

Is swimming allowed in the lake?

Yes.  Please keep in mind, that Acre Lake is not shallow or clear, so it is murky water.  We also do not have a shore to walk into the water, so jumping off the dock or a boat is permitted. We also do not have lifeguards, so swim at your own risk.  We do however have several life jackets available for kids and adults.

I am aware that you have cameras on the outside of the lakehouse. While staying there, how do I know that you aren’t personally spying on your guests?

The cameras are only there to protect the house and its content when it is empty. We will disarm it on the day guests arrive and arm it on the day guests depart. The guests can also disconnect the cameras by unplugging the modem. But please re-connect the modem once you plan to depart.

How many bathrooms do you have?

We have 2 full bathrooms. The one on the main level, includes a tub/shower combo, The jacuzzi style bathtub is great for relaxing and soothing achy muscles, but be sure to fill the water up past the jets, before pushing the button to turn them on. How is the tap water at the lake house? I have heard that some rural areas do not have good drinking water from their wells.

We consistently strive to ensure that our water system is optimal. We also recently added a sediment filter system, to help with any future water issues.

Our refrigerator also has a water dispenser and ice maker. The water filter was recently replaced as well but our refrigerator water tends to come out slow.

How do I operate the gas fireplace?

Open the bottom panel of the fireplace.  If the pilot light is not on, turn the pilot knob, then push and hold in.  While doing that, press the red star like button in a few times until it ignites. There is also a high and low setting. The button to left side turns on the fan (and the switch to right of fireplace also needs to be turned on for fan to work).  It helps to circulate the fire.   When you are done using the fireplace, please turn off button and switch to turn off the fan. We do try to keep the pilot light on, during the winter months, for easier access of using the fireplace. PLEASE NOTE: Extended amounts of gas use can cause our tank to run low on propane which also operates our stove used for cooking. So, we ask that our guests turn off the fireplace when gone and prior to heading to bed. Pilot light can remain on.

Do I need a fishing license to fish at Acre Lake? And how much does it cost?

Yes, a valid Pennsylvania fishing license is required of persons aged 16 and over.  If you are a resident of PA, typically you will pay $14 for a day and $28 for a year. You can buy one online around $15 for 1 day, $31 for 3 days and $40 for 7 days for non-residents, at Fishandboat.com. You can also pick one up at the Acre Lake Store next to our community. Keep in mind, that we do not have trout in our lake.

However, you do not need one if you are assisting a child by casting or retrieving a fishing rod as long as the child is within arm’s length.

Also, Acre Lake is a private lake, and we rarely have someone patrolling here, so the chance is very slim to be fined fishing without a license. However, if you are caught without one, the fine is around $250.
