Welcome to our frequently asked questions page.

What type of parking is available?

At this time, we do not have a garage, but we have at least 3 car off street parking just outside our front yard, and an additional parking spot in front of our boat trailer in front of the side part of our property. Lakeview Drive is also a very quiet street, rarely do vehicles drive by, and as long as you don’t block cars from driving by, you can park on the street as well. Please note that the garbage truck will need room to go by on friday mornings.

What are the check-in and check-out instructions?

You will receive these instructions a few days prior to your stay, but here is some of the basic list of information that you will be receiving. Check in, this email will provide you with the front door code to get into the house, with standard information on home equipment use and other standard provided services available during your stay, while the check out information is the typical process that most vacation rentals ask of. Please note: We do offer late check-out times, so you don’t have to feel rushed before you leave. This will have to be requested prior to your stay to ensure that the cleaning crew is scheduled after your departure.

Example of checkout instructions: *Start a load of laundry, like towels or comforters. Please note, the comforters and towels can be washed together but not with clothes or sheets as the comforters cause extra lint that you don’t want added to your clothes or the sheets. *Start a load of dishes. *take out trash to trash can by basement door. *Any beds that were used, please take sheets off and put them in a pile by bed, so that cleaning company knows which sheets to wash, and which beds that were not used. *Turn off the coffee maker (if on). *Make sure that thermostat is at a normal temperature. *Don’t forget to remove all of your personal belongings and dispose of all kitchen food/drink items from refrigerator and cabinets, that have been opened and used. If there are any condiments that the next guest can use, please feel free to leave them. *Make sure that the oven, stove and grill are turned off as well as any fire started has been put out. *Lock all of the doors. The front door should lock automatically when shut. Please be sure to leave the key to basement door, where you found it. Please leave anything that was supplied to you during your stay, so that the next guests can enjoy them, and put them back where you found them.

In your listing, it states that you have over 3 acres, but I only see the house that sits on property that appears to be under an acre, can you explain?

Sure! We own 3 wooded acres behind the lake house, on the other side of Lakeview Drive, that ends at the top before you reach Owego Turnpike road. While we don’t have walking trails to access the wooded property yet, you are more than welcome to hike it, just be safe, because it can get steep. We also own some property on both sides of the lake house, which gives you plenty of privacy between neighbors. Guests can also take a relaxing walk around the entire lake, while sightseeing wildlife that surrounds you.

I see that wireless internet service is included and that the network name and password are available next to the modem at the lake house, but I have heard that the cellular phone service is spotty out in rural areas. Is this the case at this lake house as well?

While the internet service works great at the lake house, yes, for now, we have weak mobile phone signals throughout the lake house, which is common in this area. There are some areas that work better than others, and while we don’t have a landline phone, we will continue to look for ways to enhance cell phone service in our area. So far, the sunroom has very good reception. If you have wifi mobile calling access (most smartphones have this option), this will work well in any parts of the home. Please keep that in mind when staying at Legacy. Although we include a good range of high speed internet, we also just added a 25 foot ethernet internet cable for those that want to play games on their laptops or stream videos, nearby.

I am aware that you have cameras on the outside of the lakehouse. While staying there, how do I know that you aren’t personally spying on your guests?

The cameras are only there to protect the house and its content when it is empty. We will disarm it on the day guests arrive and arm it on the day guests depart. The guests can also disconnect the cameras by unplugging the modem. But please re-connect the modem once you plan to depart.

How is the tap water at the lake house? I have heard that some areas do not have good drinking water from their wells.

We did a very thorough test recently, on our entire water system, and it came out very good, with no issues. Our refrigerator also has a water dispenser and ice maker. The water filter was recently replaced as well. We do, from time to time, get a sulfur smell when hot water is turned on (due to the location of being lakefront) This does not affect the drinking water, and we are trying to figure out how to permanently fix this. No one wants to smell rotten eggs for a day or two.

How do I operate the fireplace?

Open the bottom panel of the fireplace.  Turn pilot knob, then push and hold in.  While doing that, press the red star like button in a few times until it ignites. There is also a high and low setting. Button to left side turns on the fan (and the switch to right of fireplace also needs to be turned on for fan to work).  It helps to circulate the fire.   When you are done using the fireplace, please turn off button and switch to turn off the fan. We do try to keep the pilot light on, during the winter months, for easier access of using the fireplace.
